Sourcing the wood:
Sonae Arauco ensures that all our trees are sourced from eco-friendly and community conscious forestry partners. The trees grown on these sustainable farms are very efficient at producing high levels of clean oxygen while also absorbing and storing up to 40% of manmade carbon emissions. What happens with the wood:
Once the trees have been harvested, the logs are divided depending on their width and weight. The smaller logs are sent to the wood-based panel industry, where they are manufactured into our quality particleboard and medium density fiberboard. The larger logs are sent to an approved sawmill to be sheared into sawn wood. Both panels and sawn wood are purchased by furniture companies and component industries that make use of this material.
Recycling processes:
Recycling is an extremely important element in the wood-based panel industry and the lifecycle we adhere to allows us to maintain our eco-friendly practices. We receive offcuts from the sawmill and leftovers from the wood-based panel industry for recycling. All the wood which is eligible for recycling is transformed into new panels, while any excess is repurposed.
Energy recovery:
Wood that is unfit for recycling is collected and used as an energy source in the process of wood-based panel production. Using the non-recyclable wood in this way allows for the carbon that has been stored to be released back into the atmosphere where it is absorbed by trees on our timber suppliers farms, creating a sustainable life cycle.
