Summer Design – Matching accessories and decorative boards

Oct 18, 2022 | News

Success in interior design isn’t always achieved through a formulaic approach. Frequently we find that matching accessories and décors works best based on the season we’re in and adapting to a more organic presentation of the styles and trends that follow. Of course, with summer on the horizon, our task is to maintain a steady finger on the pulse and offer unique combinations that embolden a timeless yet seasonal appeal.

For us, it’s about finding ways to match a broad selection of design trends and maintaining a strong design identity, in essence, matching our décors with existing trend-setting interior design brands. We take a closer look at five leading companies and offer advice on complementing their designs with our growing collection.

From Unicolours, Woodgrains and Fantasies, these unique designs go far beyond the simple allocation of urban vs natural. They’re designed to enhance the physical space surrounding you and encapsulate, compliment and contrast the accessories you choose to style your home with.

Using
Woodgrains to match the earthy appeal of Weylandts

Weylandts is an established business focusing on high-end furnishings and accessories that exude a natural sense of earthiness and warmth. Guided by the stylistic integrity of their lead designers, there is a distinct yet entirely adaptable theme to their projects. From bed linens to bathroom accessories and decorative accents, if these accessories speak to you, we may have the combination to match it.

On closer inspection, Woodgrains with light and breezy tertiary undertones tend to incorporate seamlessly into their design aesthetic. In particular, the gorgeous combination of our lighter Spirit décors has an all-encompassing and definitive aesthetic, complimenting the discerning accessories they offer for one’s living room space.

Our top recommendations are Amber, Aurora and Nevada. All of these are exclusive to our latest Spirit finish. We also believe that Balsa and Symphony, in select finishes, work well in this regard too. Look at some of their accessories and see if you agree with us.

Amatuli – industrial African designs blend well with Fantasies

Rustic and carrying the unmissable aesthetic of truly African design, Amathuli scours the planet for all sorts of accessories and refurbishes them with a distinctive blend of African style and richness. Essentially, their core philosophy is to tell the story of their pieces through community craft.

We love their approach to interior design, and while it cannot be understated, finding the right décor to match their vision was quite challenging. At first, we thought rich and dark Woodgrains would make a great pairing but quickly realised that they only serve to over saturate the appeal of their accessories. Instead, we believed that contrasting textures made more of an impact.

Neutral to darker tones from our Fantasies range seemed to employ the design look and feel we were hoping for. That being said, if you find yourself in love with their products the same way we are, our top three décor choices would be a combination of Urban Steel, Natural Concrete and Leatherwood. Versatile and adaptable – wouldn’t you agree?

Mavromac’s rich fabrics tone well with Unicolours

On the more contemporary and unencumbered end of the scale, you have Mavromac and Gatehouse. This company focuses on tonal fabrics uniquely fitted for bedroom and living room interiors.

Matching their modern styles to our Unicolour selection was both seamless and a lot of fun! While we believe that most unicolours are incredibly adaptable, the specific use of our lighter tones was a definite winner. For a softer approach, we recommend the combination of Basalt and Cotton to match their bedroom fabrics. Vermont Slate, Windsor Grey and Pure White are clear winners for contemporary living room fabrics. What do you think?

La G
range and Isabelina have a comprehensive range to suit all appeals

While some companies have a definitive style and direction, others tend to take a broad and more comprehensive approach. In these cases, finding the right décor to match their existing range is a personal decision.

If you take a closer look at some of the offerings from Le Grange and Isabelina, you’ll be met with a broad selection to choose from. We’re singling out these companies because their designs tend to suit a more eclectic approach. This lends credence to our mantra of Matching Life and why we offer our clients an expansive range to choose from.

Ultimately, trends serve as a guideline, but the final decision to either match these trends or buck them lies with you. One may either follow the scene or set the trends for themselves. Regardless of the design aesthetic you or clients decide to go with, and our range is carefully selected to encompass that.
