Living Room Décors that make a statement

While some interior design trends are seasonal and short-lived, some are timeless and some make a comeback after a time. We are now seeing an evolution in the interior space, especially the living room. We believe this is due to Covid commanding us to be more present in our homes, to declutter and to also enjoy the designed-spaces we live in.

Spa-like Interiors

Spa-like interiors are in vogue – bringing a sense of calm and relaxation to our living rooms. Contrasted with a darker or complementary shade adds depth and warmth especially when focused on a solitary wall in the living room. Hues like cream and beige and variations of these, like sand and stone colours, evoke a softer, relaxed mood.

Breathe in Nature

Our growing concern for the environment has seen a style shift towards nature-oriented interior design. We are seeing wood as the material of choice with light woods making an appearance in anything from flooring to furniture to wood based panels and finishes. The Novolam Collection brings in earthy elements giving any living area a warmer natural feel.

Natural materials and elements make a delightful, subtle showing in décor accessories like stones, seashells, seaweed and driftwood.

Biophilic design is another growing trend. In addition to an abundance of house plants, homes are featuring lush indoor gardens and vertical wall gardens populated with fresh greenery or mini, delicate, attractive plants… or for growing their own herbs.

Revealing Architectural  Lines

Living rooms emphasise the less-is-more minimalist fashion in their clean, simple, uncluttered lines. Furniture is sophisticated and under-stated with minimal patterning and texture so that its architectural features are highlighted to full effect.

Focal frenzy

Single statement pieces, like a bold colourful lamp or vibrant vase or wall décor like an eye-catching painting, create a dash of drama especially when neutral shades form the main palette. Industrial interior style, effective in multi-purpose areas such as large, open-plan living spaces, is displayed in elements like metal shelving, exposed brick walls and exposed industrial items such as plumbing pipes. Metal touches of brass or copper add a pop of warmth and glamour too. Cladding one wall in a living room is a new trend and makes a dramatic and decorative statement. Less, less, less and clean, clean, clean

Glass is more widely used especially when blending the living room indoors with the outdoors with sliding doors. Large windows let the natural light flow in and brighten indoor spaces. Blinds, shutters and lighter weight, soft filmy curtains are making a comeback and letting in floods of natural light and airy breezes. Mirrors are still popular for that sense of spaciousness and brighter ambiance they bring to a room.

There is less of a need to escape to a spa or go on a vacation, when you have a beautiful interior. These trends are here to stay, making it worth the spend. So design, build, reorganise and love your space.
