Give your home a décor refresh

We might be in the middle of winter but that doesn’t mean you can’t use this time to give your home’s décor a quick refresh. We’re looking at some of the simple ways in which you can revitalise your interior in time for spring.

With the pandemic still working its way around the globe and the subsequent lockdown and restrictions we’ve faced, the notion of redecorating or refreshing your home’s décor might seem a bit farfetched to you. But in actual fact, using the ample time you have to spend at home as a result of the lockdown, to make some much-needed changes or improvements to your interior is an excellent way not only to improve the look and feel of your home, but also your general mood.

Here are some of the ways in which you can do a quick and easy décor refresh on the different rooms in your home:

Kitchen

There are so many simple ways that you can refresh a kitchen’s decor without embarking on some full-scale renovations. You can completely change the look and feel of a kitchen by simply changing the colour scheme, which you can achieve by painting the walls a fresh new colour or adding some colourful tiles into the mix, introducing a pop of colour in the form of some colour co-ordinated kitchen appliances and kitchenware or by installing kitchen surfaces, cabinetry and cupboards in a new colour of your choice. Another excellent way to completely change the look of your kitchen, as well as to free up some additional space, is to install floating shelves where you can store and display your kitchenware and appliances. 

Bathroom

There are lots of great – and easy – ways in which you can completely change the décor of your bathroom without having to actually renovate it. Changing – or adding – beautifully coloured or patterned tiles is an excellent way to personalise the space and give It a completely new feel. After all, whether you want to add a pop of colour, introduce a striking pattern or create a focal point, there’s a tile out there that will perfectly fit your personal taste. Another great way to refresh your bathroom’s decor is to replace the taps, whether you’re looking to create a modern feel with state-of-the-art taps or go for a more vintage look. Adding some plants to your bathroom is an excellent way to introduce a pop of green and bring a piece of the outdoors into your home – not to mention, it will also create a wonderfully tropical feel.

Living room

The living room is arguably the most used room in a home which makes it the perfect spot for a seasonal décor refresh. An excellent way to completely change your living room without needing to bash down walls or pull up floors is to re-arrange the furniture to create a room with an entirely new look and feel and that better utilises the space. You can also update the colour scheme, either by adding a new coat of paint, creating a colourful feature wall, reupholstering key pieces of furniture, introducing a colourful rug or by simply getting some new scatter cushions that match your desired colour scheme.  You can also add new light fixtures or change your existing ones to better encompass the décor style you’re aiming for, whether you want a more modern look, something more retro or perhaps a bold fixture that can be a feature in your living room.

Bonus: designated working space

Since working from home has become a reality for many of us, why not use this time to create (or refresh) your own designated workspace or home office.  You can do this by finding an available nook or corner space – if you don’t already have a study or work room available – where you can set up a desk, storage shelf or cupboard, along with any other work-related accessories you may need. Make sure your workspace is isolated enough that you won’t be disturbed while you try and work and that you have enough space to avoid any stress inducing clutter. You can introduce some office-style light fixtures and get yourself a specialised work chair to ensure you are comfortable while you work and voila! your very own home office.
