Autumn trends for your home interior

Mar 31, 2022 | News

A brand new season welcomes a fresh look at the latest styles for interior design chic. As the days are becoming shorter with bristles of golden brown and red highlights starting to accent our streets, it’s clear that Autumn is finally upon us. Luckily, with the new season comes the inspiration for a fresh new look and feel for home interiors

From rich colour palettes to seasonal sculptures and paintings, we explore some of the latest trends in interior design that offer a sublime and contemporary appeal perfect for settling your home into the cooler months.

Rich Colour Palettes – Darkwood in vogue

Autumn brings with it a host of rich and vibrant colour palettes that comprise heavy and saturated hues. Colours such as orange, brown, and dark red will play the lead role in terms of defining a focal point. One such detail which properly compliments this
trend is the addition of dark wood accents and decorative pieces.

Areas of the home such as the living room and the study will benefit most from the addition of pieces such as sofas and coffee tables that embellish the dark brown or woodlike aesthetic. Be sure to balance this rich texture by including cream, white, or beige pieces in order to enhance the overall appeal with a touch of class.

If you’re thinking of renovating cabinetry and shelving, consider the lasting appeal of Innovus Decorative Product’s woodgrain category. Décors such as Kingswood, Nevada, Chobe, Royal Mahogany, and French Walnut are best suited for autumnal designs and best exude the characteristics of dark wood.

Posters and sculptures

Your goal this season is to create a home space that is both warm and atmospheric. One of the ways you can do this without fully overhauling your home interior is to mix and match different sculptures and paintings of various red, orange, and brown shades.

Quirky sculptures are back in style in 2022 as seen on both Pinterest and Instagram. Not only do they add colour and vibrancy but some of the more playful designs lend a cheerful expression which is perfect for the season.

If you have a display cabinet or table, consider adding a small, colourful yet simple canvassed painting on an easel stand. Red, orange, brown or a combination of these colours work well on small floor or table sculptures as well so don’t feel as though you are confined to one option or the other.

Symmetry with round shapes and straight lines

When choosing the right shapes to create symmetry within the home, interior designers need to analyse several aspects. These include the space and dimension, the needs of the homeowner, and how additions like furniture play into our mood.

Contrasting shapes will play a huge role in determining this season’s design flow. One thing to bear in mind. Soft meets hard, cosy meets rustic, and round shapes meet straight lines. Regardless of whether you are aware of it or not, shapes can determine the mood of your home interior.

Let’s take for example a squared coffee table complete with an array of two or three oval-shaped vases. This simple design embodies this trend perfectly. Or, if you prefer, a round table with console legs creates contrast within itself especially when complete with a rectangular top.

Green on green and biophilic elements

We’ve spoken at length about the addition of biophilic elements and for good reason. While Autumn presents an opportunity for rouge colour schemes, the addition of rich green shades creates a natural source of inspiration regardless of the time of year.

You can be quite liberal with this since everything from the addition of potted shrubs to vases and glassware can add much-needed contrast to a variety of autumnal colours. You may even combine the two elements with red and orange flowers. A defining feature of the 2021/22 design trend is an affinity to natural elements.

Defined as “an innate and genetically determined affinity of human beings with the natural world,” Biophilic designs resonate with our deepest connections to the natural world.
