The Dads of Sonae Arauco

Jun 14, 2019 | News

Being a Dad is a task filled with responsibility, hard work and a million treasurable memories. Four of our exceptional Sonae Arauco Dads sat down for a friendly conversation and discussed what it means to be a Dad… This is what they had to say.

Kaushik Maganbeharie (KM)
Cobus Swart (CS)
Dumisani Goodwill Simelane (DGS)
William Wolfaardt (WW)

1. How has being a father changed your life?

(KM) – My two children are the biggest and best change in my life. I am so grateful for these two children.

(CS) – Becoming a father was the single biggest change in my life. It was the moment all my responsibilities changed and the last person to think of became myself, I wouldn’t change anything.

(DGS) – Being a father helps me to be responsible for my actions, and that whatever choices I’ve got I have to think of my daughter first.

(WW) – Nothing in my life has ever brought me more joy, sadness, excitement, regret, fear or unmeasurable love than being a dad… and this all before breakfast on a Saturday morning. My two children, Kyle and Chiara, have made my life a richer experience and all of the grey hair and sleepless nights, concern for their futures, have been absolutely worth it and I will do it with pleasure again. I’ve always thought that my wife completed me and I would be a lesser human without her but my kids showed me a part of my being that I didn’t even know existed. I am truly blessed!

2. What is the most important life lesson you would pass onto your child?

(KM) – Always be open-minded, do what you love, and go for what you believe in. The sky is your limit.

(CS) – Respect. All our fundamental values and pillars are based on respect.

(DGS) – The lesson that I would like to pass onto my daughter is that she must study hard then she will live the life she wants to live.

(WW) – Be true to yourself and respect others.

3. What is the most important role as a father?

(KM) – Being there for my kids, and teaching them to be good people. Also giving them what I never had but at the same time ensuring that they don’t abuse the freedom and liberty I have given them, teaching them to be responsible and independent adults.

(CS) – For me, it is to see how my children see me as their mentor and the ability to guide them through life and protect them.

(DGS) – To be a good role model I believe.

(WW) – As a father; to keep your kids safe and fed. The “KPI” is simple: them staying alive.
As a dad; to be there for your loved ones, in their time of need, without consideration for your own struggles and demons, in a time that doesn’t fit into your diary and with the love that Mother Teresa would be proud of. The “KPI” output cannot be measured, but the feeling of utter joy will make your heart smile.

4. What would you like to do for Father’s Day?

(KM) – Watch Netflix and relax on my patio and have lunch with my family.

(CS) – Any outdoor activity with my children is always special and the memories created on these occasions are very dear to me.

(DGS) – I’d like to spend time with my family.

(WW) – No work, sorry Sonae. 100% dedicated time with my “mini-me’s”. Whether on some fancy paid-for experience, or a casual day at the movies and some adventure golf afterwards or even just at home with some pizza and Netflix. The activity is irrelevant, the time with them is priceless.

Sonae Arauco thanks all dads for their dedication and hard work. Wishing you a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday.
