Recycling in the Office

Nov 16, 2018 | News

With the world moving forward and becoming more environmentally conscious, recycling in the office space has become a key component to sustainable business practices. While many companies have made strides towards becoming more in tune with following this practice, there are a few businesses who don’t know where to begin or how to take their recycling further. Here are three tips to getting your business on track with the green movement.

  1. Move beyond paper

In the everyday life of the office, there is more that can be recycled than paper. Consider the cans and bottles used to package beverages and plastic containers used for quick takeaway lunches. Another area to consider for recycling is e-waste, printer cartridges, light bulbs, and obsolete technology can be recycled through the correct channels.

       2. Avoid disposable bottles and coffee cups:

This isn’t to suggest asking your employees to quit the morning coffees and cooldrinks they enjoy throughout the day, but rather to provide an alternative way to consume them. The plastic lids in takeaway coffee cups and the millions of plastic bottles from water are some of the biggest contributors to plastic waste in landfills. Providing a less wasteful alternative for your employees will help shrink your business’s output of these items. A company branded coffee flask or water bottle which they can use throughout the day will greatly limit the plastic waste. Another item which many companies and countries are making big strides to eliminate from their everyday lives are plastic straws, encourage your employees to use more environmentally friendly alternatives and provide paper or bamboo straws in the workplace.

A few simple steps in the workplace and home can have a massive impact on the environment around us, limiting what gets sent to landfills and how our lives are improved in a small, but great way.
